The
Fall Obedience Trail premium list needs to be in by May 5th. As most of
you know Sherry and I cut every cost we could for 2008 and with the new
AKC fee we still lost money on the trial!
In an effort to at
least break even, we are again taking donations of money from anyone
that can and will donate to the "SAVE the FALL TRIAL" campaign! We are
not asking for a "trophy" , just money to help offset the cost of
ribbons and Judges' expenses. If you would like to donate $10 up to
$19.99 we will list your name in the "donors" listing. If you would
like to donate $20 you can sponsor a class of your choice!
We need 4 donors of
$25.00 each to sponsor a High-In-Trial or High Combined for each day.
So we will gladly print your name on the program as the sponsor!
Please forward this to any e-mail addresses for club members
that I might have missed. Thank you!
Please call Janet
at 416-5540 if you have any questions. We appreciate any donation you
or anyone you know can make on behalf of the Fall Trial!!! THANK YOU
There are many
different types of obedience. From general good behavior in the home
to competing for titles in the ring, they all start with the same base.
At Gloc you and your dog are able to start at the first level (beginning
basic obedience or puppy manners) and work your way up to the competition level.
GLOC offers puppy
manners, basic obedience, intermediate obedience, and novice (competition)
obedience.
Puppy Manners:
This
class is for puppies 8-20 weeks. The entire family is encouraged to attend
this class with the puppy. In class, we cover socialization of the puppy,
beginning obedience, beginning conformation and general care of puppies.
Enrollment is limited.
Basic
Obedience:
This
class will train your dog to be a better companion. Points covered are: to
heel, to sit on command, to stand on command, to lie down, to come when
called and to become better socialized (how to handle a dog that lunges
toward or away from other dogs or people). This class is aimed at dogs 5
months or older.
Intermediate Obedience:
Perfect the points you learned in the basic class. At the end of the class
you will have the opportunity to earn the American Kennel Club Canine Good
Citizen certificate.
Novice Ready Obedience:
Preparation for
entering your dog in competitions. Learn about AKC rules, attention
exercises, off-leash work and many other facets of obedience competitions.
Students must have a solid grounding in basic obedience.
You
need to obtain 3 qualifying scores in AKC obedience to earn a title which
will go behind your dogs name. Each qualifying score is called a
"leg". A dog receives a qualifying score when it earns more than 50
percent of the points for each exercise, with a total of at least 170
points. A perfect score in any class is 200. There is one title in AKC
obedience that will go in front of your dogs name...OBEDIENCE TRIAL CHAMPION
or OTCH. To earn the OTCH, your dog must first have a UD, then dogs
with UD titles must win 100 points and a first-place in Utility B and Open
B, plus a third first-place win in either class, under three different
judges.
For
UKC you will also need to obtain 3 qualifying scores to earn the titles. You
dog can also earn an UNITED OBEDIENCE CHAMPION DOG or UOCH. You first
need to earn the UUD, the dog must earn combined wins at 5 different UKC
trial and earn a qualifying score in Open and Utility at the same trial with
a combined score of 370 or above. Accumulate 100 obedience
championship points, at least 30 in Open B and 20 in Utility B. You
can also earn a UNITED GRAND OBEDIENCE CHAMPION or GOCH. You must
first earn the UOCH, then you need 15 combined wins.
